Organizational Tips

  • Make sure that when you get pictures developed to keep them in chronological order. Keep any mementos you get from events with these pictures.
  • Have a place for all of your stuff (drawers/shelves) so that you can see what you have and can find all of your supplies. Use a three-ring binder to organize templates.
  • Keep a bag with adhesive, basic scissors, black pen, and a corner rounder to grab and go when only going for a night or short time.
  • Always have adhesive squares they are good for multiple things, not just putting pictures down with.
  • Keep your most common cropping items together in one bag so that you are always ready to crop.
  • Know what you have. This prevents purchasing duplicates.
  • Have bags for scraps and garbage.
  • Organize all your material 1-2 days before you go to a crop workshop.
  • Crop a roll of film as soon as you get it with your circle/oval cutter and personal trimmer and page set up will go faster.
  • Have a table or room specifically designed for scrapbooking. This saves time with tear down, set up, and finding photos when you need them.
  • Put an obvious mark on all of your scissors, pens and supplies. It is inevitable that you will be near someone at a crop/workshop that will have the identical item as you and innocent mistakes get made.
  • One way to sort paper is to use a hanging file for your paper, sort it by color for the plain sheets and by theme for print sheets.
  • Keep all of my templates in a three ring binder or in a plastic sleeve in the binder.
  • Don't do second choice color paper, backgrounds, etc. because your first choice isn't available to you at that moment, move to something else or you'll never be happy with less than perfect (or your perception of perfect).
  • Separate photos in box with cards in between events to keep them in chronological order.
  • To reduce magazine clutter, I take out the page I like and place in a box that used to be used for cancelled checks. Then you can organize them however you would like.
  • Make sure that you store pens horizontally, that way they don't dry out as fast.
  • Let it be O.K. to not be caught up.
  • Stay organized (if it is even possible to get that way).
  • Try to put paper, stickers, and pictures together ahead of time.
  • In preparing to go to a crop, pull everything you need for each page… pictures, paper, stickers, etc. and put them in page protectors, zip lock baggies, etc.
  • Use Tupperware boxes for small stickers, paper, etc.
  • New people watch for and duplicate other scrapper's ideas that you like.
  • Store all die cuts, stickers, cards, etc by subject/categories. (i.e. store all Christmas stuff together) so that when you are working on Christmas pages you need to look in just one place. Just remember that some stickers can be used for multiple functions.
  • Keep your scrap papers in a folder in front or in back of the matching full sheets. You can also store patterned paper in the same folder so when you are looking for yellow paper, your pattern paper and solids are in the same place.
  • When using letter templates, turn both the paper and the template upside down, use a mechanical pencil to trace the letters that you want to cut out. Doing it this way, you don't have to worry about erasing the lines or making marks on the front of your paper.
